Excellence in patient care, medical education and research defines this award-winning system. In addition to the University Hospital, C.S. Mott Children's Hospital, the University of Michigan Medical School and Women's Hospital, the system is made up of 30 health centers and 120 outpatient clinics. The VA Ann Arbor Healthcare System (VAAAHS) provides high quality, cost effective tertiary care to veterans residing in lower Michigan and northwestern Ohio. Affiliated with the University of Michigan School of Medicine, all VAAAHS physicians hold joint faculty appointments at the University. An extensive research program is ongoing in clinical, basic science, health services, and rehabilitation, with an annual research budget of approximately $10.6 million, plus additional external funding primarily from NIH.
